About Meningitis NOW
Meningitis Now is the new name for Meningitis UK and the Meningitis Trust. Their goals remain the same – saving lives and rebuilding futures.
Meningitis was formed in 1999, with a single single aim:
A vaccine that protects against all forms of the disease.
The Meningitis Trust started in 1986 and, since then, has supported people as they face life after meningitis. It provides the widest range of free services and community-based support for people affected by meningitis across the UK, and raises awareness of the disease and funds research into its long-term impact. The Trust merged with Meningitis UK at the beginning of April 2013 to form the UK’s biggest meningitis charity and bring together expertise in research and prevention with established support services and after-care.
Meningitis UK receive no government funding and rely solely on the generosity of the general public. Many of our supporters have experienced meningitis themselves and support the charity to help eradicate the disease and prevent future families from suffering. It obviously goes without saying that the more support we get, the sooner we can put a stop to this awful disease and the more lives we will be be able to save in so doing.

Every week, six families face the traumatic loss of a loved one to meningitis. In the past 20 years, vaccines have been developed to protect against Hib, Meningitis C and Pneumococcal Meningitis but people still aren't fully protected against all forms.
Because the symptoms are very difficult to spot, we believe that a preventive vaccine is the only way to stop families and loved ones the heartache. Our search for a vaccine campaign aims to raise 7 Million to fund pioneering research to help us achieve our objective and save thousands of lives.
It is important to trust your instincts. If you suspect something is wrong, seek medical help immediately.
